A Red Knot weighs only a few ounces. Yet some travel up to 10,000 miles north toward Canadian Arctic breeding grounds. Beginning January 1, 2026, I started following that migration at human scale.
From 2026 through 2028, every mile I run and cycle, and every 25 yards I swim, will accumulate more than 10,000 cumulative miles, to match this little bird's one-way flight distance on its migration.
Â
In 2028, I will move progressively north through places used by Red Knots. The journey starts in Chile and ends with a marathon-distance run in the Canadian Arctic.
Supporters can pledge a few cents—or more—against the distance I swim, bike and run between 2026 and 2028. **100%** of pledged donations will go directly to participating tax-exempt nonprofit conservation organizations working to protect Red Knots and their habitats along the migration route. **I will personally fund all travel and operating expenses associated with the expedition.**
